When the Heart is not there… literally

I have always loved and am still loving the songs sang by Rihanna.
Her music is always a reflection of her emotions. It’s amazing as you can actually feel her pain when she sang them.
I remember a couple of songs, “Take A Bow” which talks about a boyfriend/girlfriend or partner caught red handed cheating but still continued to play victim, and “Love The Way You Lie” which talks about the excruciating pain of the victim being lied to, the regret and self promise made by the perpetrator to prevent the other person who is loved deeply from leaving at all cost(s). The previous hit by her which is “California King Bed”, talks about the heart of a person not being there even though they are literally sleeping on the same bed and always within close proximity from one another. The feeling felt deeply from the song was that the “intimacy” between two people is not really intimate as the heart of one person is no longer there. One person felt lost, confused, heartbroken, distanced and being given the cold shoulder. In my view, the other person may be sustaining the relationship for the sake of being together because he or she is afraid of being lonely. It may also mean that that person feels the need to “possess” someone but not necessarily because he or she love him or her deeply and wants to live together. In any case, i have posted the lyrics and music video below. Enjoy.

“California King Bed”

Chest to chest
Nose to nose
Palm to palm
We were always just that close
Wrist to wrist
Toe to toe
Lips that felt just like the inside of a rose
So, how come when I reach out my finger
It feels like more than distance between us

In this California king bed
We’re ten thousand miles apart
I’ve been California wishing on these stars
For your heart for me
My California king

Eye to eye
Cheek to cheek
Side by side
You were sleeping next to me
Arm in arm
Dusk to dawn
With the curtains drawn
And a little last night on these sheets
So, how come when I reach out my fingers
It seems like more than distance between us

In this California king bed

We’re ten thousand miles apart
I’ve been California wishing on these stars
For your heart for me
My California king

Just when I felt like giving up on us
You turned around and gave me one last touch
That made everything feel better
And even then my eyes got wetter
So confused wanna ask you if you love me
But I don’t wanna seem so weak
Maybe I’ve been California dreaming

Yeah yeah yeah

In this California king bed
We’re ten thousand miles apart
I’ve been California wishing on these stars
For your heart for me
My California king
My California king

In this California king bed
We’re ten thousand miles apart
I’ve been California wishing on these stars
For your heart for me
My California king
